Release notes: Updates to Potential False Activity Alarms

Overview

We're excited to announce major improvements to ActivTrak's false activity detection capabilities. This release enhances our ability to detect and respond to activity simulation attempts while providing administrators with clearer, more actionable information.

Key Changes

  • Split the existing Potential False Activity (PFA) alarm into three distinct alarms
  • Enhanced notification clarity and detail
  • Improved platform-specific capabilities
  • Added user identification features

New Default Alarms

1. Input Simulation Software Detection

  • Detects known software used to simulate user activity
  • Available for both Windows and macOS
  • Once-daily notifications per user
  • Default state: off

2. Repetitive Activity Detection

  • Identifies artificial input patterns
  • Automatically switches detected activity to Passive state
  • Windows platform only
  • Includes context about:
    • Pattern duration
    • Possible causes
    • Activity details when triggered
  • Default state: off

3. High Duration Activity

  • Flags single-screen activities exceeding 45 minutes
  • Available on all platforms
  • Helps catch lesser-known hardware and software-based simulation tools
  • Default state: off
