How to Change the Account Owner or Admin

As people come and go from an organization, changes to who owns and accesses an account are expected. It's important that this information is kept current, as any changes to an ActivTrak account must be initiated by people with the correct level of access. To change the Owner and/or Admin of an account, please follow the instructions below.

Changing the Owner of an Account

The Creator / Owner of the ActivTrak account cannot be changed within the app. To change this person, the current owner should contact billing@activtrak.com. If the email domain is changing, we will provide a change of ownership form to be completed and signed.

If the current owner is no longer reachable, certain account information will need to be provided for verification purposes.

Changing the Admin of an Account

NOTE: Even if the person is not changing and the email address was simply misspelled or changed, the instructions below still apply.

  1. A current Admin should login, navigate to Settings > Access > App Access and click on "Add New ActivTrak ID."
  2. Fill in the new Admin's first name, last name and email address. Select the Admin User Role, then click NEXT. Since Admins have access to all Users and Groups and this cannot be changed, click away from the Viewable Groups window or click Cancel to return to App Access. 
  3. Your new Admin should appear in the list. At this point, a confirmation email with a link to finish creating the new account is sent to the new email address.
  4. The new Admin should login, navigate to Settings > Access > App Access and locate the old Admin, then click on the three-dot menu in the right-most column and select "Delete" to remove the old account. Check to acknowledge, then click Delete a second time.

NOTE: In some cases, the previous Admin may have left the company but their emails are forwarded or can still be accessed. In this case, click “Forgot password?” on the Login page, enter their email and follow the instructions sent there to access the account and change the Admin.

If there is only one Admin and they are no longer reachable, certain account information will need to be provided for verification purposes. Please reach out to billing@activtrak.com. Once verification is complete, they will engage Support to help you gain access.
