Detect Incognito Mode and Private Browsing
It's remarkably simple to get notified of instances of private or incognito browsing with ActivTrak. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to create an alarm to detect and notify you when a user has initiated a new private browser window.
NOTE: Due to recent changes in the Google Chrome browser, this method will not work if the user is using Chrome. However, the agent will still capture everything done in an incognito window but show up in the logs as if the user was in a regular Chrome window.
How to Setup the Alarm:
1. Navigate to Alarms from the sidebar menu in the dashboard.
2. Once there, click the "+ Create New Alarm" button in the top left corner.
3. A pop up will appear on the screen, name the new alarm and choose "Activity Alarm".
4. Many options to customize the alarm will now be shown on screen. To learn more about customizing alarms click here. The most important part of this alarm is creating the proper conditions. Make sure "Match any" is selected and create the two conditions below:
a) Field = Titlebar
Operation = Contains
Value = incognito
Case Sensitive = No
b) Field = Titlebar
Operation = Contains
Value = private browsing
Case Sensitive = No
5. After adding each condition click update. Then decide which actions should be taken when the alarm is triggered and enable them.
6. Finally, click the create button located at the top right or bottom left of the screen to create and enable the new alarm.
