Does the Agent take up compute resources?

The ActivTrak Agent is a lightweight and discreet app that will have little to no effect on up to date machines. There is no measurable performance change for the end user.

Screenshots and logs that are collected by the agent are only stored locally until the agent is able to communicate back to the ActivTrak servers, meaning that local storage used is kept to a bare minimum.

The actual amount of storage and bandwidth used by each agent will depend on a number of factors including:

  • Number of monitors
  • Resolution
  • Use of Video Alarms
  • Number of Active Alarms

Bandwidth wise, on a 2017 13 inch MacBook Pro, running for 8 hours continuously and capturing a single screenshot every 20 seconds, the agent reported the following:

  • less than 85MB worth of data uploaded
  • less than 3MB of data downloaded.

Memory wise, that same MacBook Pro averaged 32MB of Memory over the same time period. For comparison, Slack, running on the same machine averaged 91MB and Spotify averaged 102MB.
