Product Update: Custom Rule Classification (Early Access)

We are pleased to announce our latest release: Classification by Custom Rules. Now you can automatically classify websites based on patterns you define, saving valuable time on manual classification while ensuring consistent categorization across your organization. Instead of classifying websites one by one as they appear, you can proactively set up rules that automatically assign categories and productivity settings to websites matching your specified patterns.

To access this feature, navigate to Settings > Classifications > Custom Rules tab. Here, you can create rules using website patterns with wildcards to automatically classify matching sites. For more information, see our Help Center article here.

Key Benefits:

  • Save Time: Automatically classify websites matching your defined patterns instead of manual, case-by-case classification
  • Ensure Consistency: Apply the same category and productivity settings across all websites that match your rule patterns
  • Proactive Management: Set up classifications before new websites appear in your environment

How It Works: Custom rules are evaluated after group-based and manual classifications but before auto-classifications in ActivTrak's classification hierarchy. When a website matches your rule pattern, it's automatically assigned your specified category and productivity setting.

Note: Custom Rule Classification is currently available as an opt-in feature. Contact support@activtrak.com to enable this functionality for your account. Rules are evaluated in order of appearance, with top rules taking precedence. You can reorder rules within the interface as needed.
