Effective August 1, 2027, ActivTrak will stop processing data from any device running an agent version below 9.0. This change applies to all Windows and macOS accounts.
What's changing
ActivTrak is establishing a minimum agent version requirement of 9.0 across all accounts. Beginning September 1, 2026, devices running sub-9.0 agents will be automatically updated on a rolling schedule organized by account size. Any device still on an older version after August 1, 2027 will stop processing data to ActivTrak until you update the agent.
Why we're making this change
Agent 9.0 introduces enhanced security hardening that isn't available in earlier versions. Standardizing on 9.0 as the minimum supported version ensures every account benefits from these improvements and allows ActivTrak to retire legacy agent infrastructure that adds engineering overhead without delivering ongoing value to accounts.
What you need to do
Most accounts will not need to take any action. ActivTrak will handle the update automatically on your account's scheduled rollout date, and you'll receive an advance email notification before that date arrives.
Your required action depends on your agent version and operating system.
Your account has auto-updatable agents
If your devices run agent versions above the auto-update threshold, ActivTrak will update them automatically. No action is needed. You may also update manually at any time before your scheduled date if you prefer to manage the transition on your own timeline.
Your account has agents that cannot auto-update
Windows agent versions that cannot auto-update: Any version below 8.0.12.0
macOS agent versions that cannot auto-update: Any version below 8.2.11.0
Your devices run Windows 7 or Windows 8
Agent 9.0 is not compatible with Windows 7 or Windows 8. Devices on these operating systems cannot be auto-updated and are not included in the standard rollout. ActivTrak will stop ingesting data from Windows 7 and Windows 8 devices on August 1, 2027, regardless of the agent version installed.
In most cases, moving off Windows 7 or Windows 8 requires new hardware, not just a software upgrade. We recommend beginning your hardware transition planning now. See the Product Update: ActivTrak Agent Version Requirements and Update Guide for more guidance.
Rollout timeline
Your account will receive an advance email notification before its scheduled auto-update date. The rollout proceeds by account device count over approximately six months. We will send an initial notification on August 31, 2026. Your account will then receive a notification seven days before the auto-update.
