Template access requirements
Before you begin, ensure you have:
- An ActivTrak paid plan and the ActivConnect API (Add-on).
- Your ActivConnect username ([account_number]@activtrak.us) and password. Your account number is in the Account Information menu in ActivTrak; access it via the circle icon in the top right corner.
- An active Power BI license.
Access the template
Validate your ActivConnect credentials
- Navigate to Google Cloud Console.
- Log in with your ActivConnect username ([account_number]@activtrak.us) and password.
Copy and update the Financial Loss - Configuration Template
- Make a copy of the Financial Loss - Configuration Template (File > Make a Copy) and give it a unique name. You should now be able to edit the copy of this Google Sheet.
- Update column A, “group_name,” with the groups in your ActivTrak environment. The Group names must match those configured in ActivTrak (Settings > Users & Groups > Groups).
- Update column B, “average_annual_salary,” with the average salary per group. This value cannot include decimals or commas (e.g., 150000).
- Once the Google Sheet is updated, copy the URL.
Download and install the PBIT file
- Within the ActivTrak app, navigate to APIs & Integrations > ActivConnect & BI.
- Find the Financial Loss card and click the Power BI download icon.
- Unpack the zipfile and open the “ActivTrak for Power BI - Financial Loss.pbit” file using Power BI Desktop.
- Enter your ActivTrak account number and paste the URL of your updated Financial Loss Configuration sheet into the “Salary URL” field. Your account number is in the Account Information menu in ActivTrak; access it via the circle icon in the top right corner.
- Click Load. This process will take a few minutes.
- During data connection, a pop-up window will appear asking you to log in to Google Sheets. You will be redirected to the browser to complete the sign-in process, then back to Power BI. Once you have signed in, click Connect in the bottom right corner.
- Another pop-up window will then appear to log in to Google BigQuery. Ensure you log in with your ActivTrak-provided credentials in the format of [account_number]@activtrak.us.
- Once complete, go back to Power BI and click Connect.
- The data refreshment may take a few minutes. A successful connection results in messaging indicating the number of “rows from GoogleBigQuery” that were refreshed.
