Release date: November 30, 2026
AI Prompt Classification is an optional feature that shows how your teams use AI tools at work. When an ActivTrak Admin opts in to an application or website, ActivTrak collects input prompt data, classifies the type of work, removes personal information, and stores only a structured label and a short anonymized summary. Unprocessed raw prompt text is never permanently stored.
Critical information:
Status
AI Prompt classification becomes available to enable in December 2026, when the ActivTrak Admin Opt-in UI is released. Once a customer enables it and meets all requirements, data collection begins. Reporting on that data is not included in the December release and is targeted for Q1 2027.

What's new:
Key capabilities
- Admin-controlled opt-in: Choose which applications, websites, users and groups are included. Anything not opted in records time duration only.
- Work classification: Each AI interaction gets a work type, task type, AI involvement level (Human-Led, AI-Assisted or AI-Led) and complexity level (Routine, Moderate or Complex).
- Anonymized activity summary: A one- to two-sentence description of the type of work, with no identifiable content.
- Automatic PII and PHI removal: A second automated check confirms no personal information remains before anything is permanently stored.
- Non-business detection: Personal use is labeled Non-Business, and only time duration is kept.
Use it to see where AI is helping with expert work and where it's producing the work product, so you can plan training, tooling and AI adoption with real data. It's most useful for IT Admins, HR and People Analytics leaders, and operations managers who need insight into AI usage without reading what employees typed.
How to access:
Go to Administration, under Settings in the ActivTrak App, select AI Data Collection, and view Prompt Data. Select the AI platform and user groups to include.
Additional information:
When an AI platform is on, the ActivTrak extension sends input field text to ActivTrak's backend over an encrypted, authenticated connection. The text is processed (stripped of PII and has a schema applied). Unprocessed text is never written to permanent storage. AI is leveraged to process this data.
Healthcare organizations should review their configuration with their compliance team before enabling the feature.
