Release date: November 12, 2026
You can now measure AI activity on everyday websites, not just in dedicated AI tools. Embedded AI activity detection captures how long users spend with AI features built into sites like Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Salesforce, and adds that time to your AI Insights dashboards. The result is a fuller picture of AI adoption, because much AI use never shows up in a standalone tool.
Critical information:

What's new:
Key capabilities
- Embedded AI activity: Measures time spent using AI features on supported websites, such as Gemini in Google Workspace or Copilot in Microsoft 365.
- AI Activity Type filter: Filters the Impact, Adoption and Compliance dashboards by Standalone or Embedded activity or shows both. Accounts not collecting embedded data see only the Standalone option.
- Complete metrics: Every metric counts both types of activity, including AI Adoption Maturity stage, % AI Usage and the Compliance counts.
- No double counting: Activity in a category selected on the Configuration page in AI Insights counts as standalone. AI activity on supported websites outside those categories counts as embedded.
- Supported websites list: A published list of the websites ActivTrak covers, updated as coverage grows.
A team that drafts in Gemini inside Google Docs didn't show up as AI users before because Google Docs isn't an AI tool. With embedded detection, that time counts toward their maturity stage and appears in the Adoption and Compliance dashboards.
IT leaders, HR leaders and executives who own AI adoption and governance get the most from this. It fits accounts where teams use AI mostly through the tools they already work in, like Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Salesforce, and where standalone numbers look lower than leaders expect.
How to access:
Embedded AI activity appears only in AI Insights dashboards in the ActivTrak App, across the Impact, Adoption, and Compliance dashboards. Your account needs the AI Insights (Add-on), Windows Agent 10.0.1 or higher on the devices you want to measure, and the ActivTrak Assist Browser Extension in each browser the organization uses. At least one user must have recorded embedded AI activity within an account for the AI Activity Type filter to display the Embedded option.
To add the AI Insights (Add-on) to your account, contact your Customer Success team.
Additional information:
Embedded AI activity is available on Windows only. macOS support is coming soon.
ActivTrak measures embedded activity only on websites on the supported websites list, and the list will grow over time. Some entries cover multiple entry points.
Chrome and Firefox browsers are currently supported. ActivTrak will add Edge, Safari, and Opera browser support as each extension is approved by its browser store and will update this note and the supported websites list as each one lands.
If a website is already in a category selected on the Configuration page in AI Insights, ActivTrak counts its activity as standalone and doesn't add embedded time on top. Productivity classification still decides whether a tool appears as approved or unapproved in the Compliance dashboard.
We also made three navigation and filtering updates to AI Insights. The Adoption dashboard now includes a Users filter that updates based on your Team selection. The Impact dashboard links to the Activity Alignment Configuration page, so you can set Core Categories without leaving AI Insights. In the Compliance dashboard, hover over % Using Approved AI or % Using Unapproved AI in AI Tool Usage by Team to see the names of up to 10 users in each team.

Feedback and performance
Share feedback with your Customer Success team, or through Support. To see the effect of embedded activity on your account, compare the Standalone and Embedded views of % AI Users and % AI Usage in the Adoption dashboard. Then check how users move between AI Adoption Maturity stages over time.
