This glossary will help you understand the key metrics and terminology used in Team Comparison. Use this reference to interpret dashboard data and communicate findings to your leadership team.
Definition
The percentage of days during the selected time period when users across your organization maintained a healthy workload utilization level - neither overworked nor underutilized. This metric provides a concrete measure of how many days an individual achieved optimal work-life balance and sustainable work patterns.
Example
If users in your organization logged 1,000 Active Days in the
selected date range and 700 of those days were healthy, % Days Healthy
= (700 / 1,000) × 100% = 70%. The other 30% of days
were overutilized or underutilized.

Definition
The percentage of days during the selected time period when a team's
users worked at levels that exceed healthy workload thresholds and
may lead to burnout. This metric helps you identify teams who are
consistently overworked and need workload adjustments or additional
support.
Example
A team logs 200 Active Days in the selected date
range, and 50 of those days are overutilized. % Days overutilized
= (50 / 200) × 100% = 25%. Compare it with other
teams to see whether this team carries more of the load.

Definition
The percentage of days during the selected time period when a team's users worked at levels below healthy workload thresholds. This metric helps you identify teams who may have insufficient work, are disengaged, face obstacles to productivity or have capacity to take on additional responsibilities.
Example
A team logs 200 Active Days in the selected date
range, and 60 of those days are underutilized. % Days underutilized
= (60 / 200) × 100% = 30%. Check whether the work
could be reallocated from teams with high overutilized days.

Definition
The number of times a team's users were active in an application
or site.
Example
In the Top Non-Business Apps/Sites chart, a streaming site shows
18 hours of Non-Business Time and a large bubble representing the number of Activities, while a shopping
site shows 9 hours and a smaller bubble. The team visited the streaming
site more often, and spent more time there.

Definition
The share of total activity time spent in a category, application, or site during the selected time frame, within the filters applied to the dashboard. Allocation % shows where time goes relative to everything else, rather than how much time was spent in absolute terms.
Example
If a team spends 12 hours in Slack out of 120 total hours in the
date range, Slack's Allocation % = (12 / 120) × 100% =
10%.

Definition
The number of times a team's attention shifted between different
tasks or applications, providing insight into multitasking patterns
and potential workflow interruptions that can impact productivity
and focus.
An attention shift is detected when the user moves their active focus
from one application or task to another, such as switching from email
to a document, from a chat application to a browser or from one project
to another.
Example
In the Top Apps/Sites affecting Focus chart, a large bubble displaying
485 for an
email application means the team moves in and out of email often.
Frequent shifts can break up focused time.

Definition
The average length, in minutes, of focused sessions. It shows how
long a team can work on a single activity without distraction. Longer
sessions mean fewer interruptions.
Example
The selected team averages 26 minutes per focused session, and its
comparison team averages 14 minutes. The comparison team has shorter
stretches of uninterrupted work.

Definition
The average uninterrupted length of time, in minutes, a team spends
in productive applications and websites. A
team with shorter sessions than its comparison team may face more
interruptions.
Example
The selected team averages 35 minutes per productive session, and
its comparison team averages 22 minutes. The comparison team's productive
work is interrupted more often.

The average number of breaks users on a team, or the entire organization,
take each day.
Example
A team averages 3 breaks/day, and the organization
averages 5. Use Breaks/Day (Org.) as a comparison. Read
it with % Days Overutilized; a team with many overutilized days and
few breaks may be at higher risk of burnout.

in collaboration, using meetings,
messaging, chat applications and other communication tools. Represents
teamwork, coordination and knowledge-sharing activities through digital
communication platforms. Goals can be set per team with select packages;
see

Definition
The difference between a team's actual performance and their assigned
goal for Productive Hrs/Day,
Focused Hrs/Day
or Collaboration Hrs/Day. Positive values (green) indicate performance
above goal, while negative values (red) indicate performance below
goal. Goals can be set per team with select packages; see
Set Productivity Goals.
Calculation
For Productive Hrs/Day:
Actual Productive Hrs/Day - Productivity Goal
For Focused Hrs/Day:
Actual Focused Hrs/Day - Focused Goal
For Collaboration Hrs/Day:
Actual Collaboration Hrs/Day - Collaboration Goal
Example
A team has a Focused Hrs/Day goal of 3.0 and averages 2.4. Its delta
vs. goal is -0.6, shown in red. The same team averages
5.6 Productive Hrs/Day against a goal of 5.0, so its delta is
+0.6, shown in green.

Definition
A classification that identifies where a user performed their work
activities on a specific date, based on network connectivity patterns,
IP addresses, and other location detection methods configured in
ActivTrak. On this dashboard, Location lets you compare productivity
across different work environments.
Calculation
Location is determined by ActivTrak's location detection algorithm,
which typically evaluates:
- Network connection data (office Wi-Fi vs. external networks)
- IP address ranges associated with office locations
- VPN connection status
- Administrator-defined location rules
Location values include:
- Office: A user worked primarily (≥80%) from a designated office location
- Remote: A user worked primarily (≥80%) from a non-office location such as home or other remote site
- Office/Remote: A user split their workday between office and remote locations
- Unknown: Location could not be determined
Example
In Productive Hrs/Day by Location, users are grouped by where they
worked, so you can see whether Remote, Office, and Office/Remote
users have similar Productive Hrs/Day.

Workdays during the selected time period when a user performed their
work primarily from a designated office location. This provides a
concrete measure of in-office presence and helps organizations track
physical workplace utilization.
Calculation
Location is marked as "Office" when the user spends the majority
of the workday (≥80%) connected from a designated office location.
Example
A user who spends 90% of Tuesday connected from the office is marked
as Office for that day, and that day counts toward the Office group
in Productive Hrs/Day by Location.

Workdays during the selected time period when a user worked in a
hybrid mode, splitting the workday between remote and office locations
on the same day. This captures flexible work patterns where employees
divide their time between the office and remote work within a single
workday, rather than working entirely from one location.
Calculation
Location is marked as "Office/Remote" when the user spends the workday
split between the office and a remote location.
Example
A user who works from home in the morning and from the office in
the afternoon is marked as Office/Remote for that day, and that day
counts toward the Office/Remote group in Productive Hrs/Day by Location.

Definition
An
organizational unit in ActivTrak
that groups users together based on shared characteristics such
as department, function, reporting structure, or project assignment.
Teams (also known as
Groups)
serve as a primary filter for analyzing productivity data and
enable comparative analysis across different groups within an
organization.
Teams in ActivTrak:
- Created and managed by administrators
- Allow for hierarchical structures (teams within teams)
- Serve as filters for dashboards and reports
- Enable team-level goal setting and benchmarking
- Provide context for productivity comparisons
Example
A financial services company has structured its ActivTrak teams
to match its organizational hierarchy:
- The Accounting team consists of 8 members, averaging 6.2 productive hours per day, which is above their 6.0-hour benchmark.
- The Investment Analysis team comprises 12 analysts, who currently average 5.8 productive hours daily, slightly below their target of 6.0 hours.
- The Client Services team, the largest group with 15 members, maintains a productivity level of 6.5 hours per day, exceeding its 6.0-hour goal.
- The IT Support team of six specialists averages 5.7 productive hours daily, exceeding their lower benchmark of 5.5 hours, due to the reactive nature of their work.
Using these team designations, executives can filter dashboard data to compare performance across departments, while team leaders can view only their specific team metrics. This structure enables appropriate goal-setting based on different job functions and provides meaningful context for productivity analysis throughout the organization.
